Free job application tracker template
A spreadsheet for every job you apply to: where it is, what you sent, who you know there and what happens next. Opens in Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers. No sign-up.
In Google Sheets: File, Import, Upload, then pick the file. In Excel or Numbers: open the file. The columns and two example rows are ready to overwrite.
The columns, and why they are there
- Company, Role, Link, Location: the job, with the link to the posting so you can read it again before an interview. Postings come down; save the text too if it matters.
- Status: one of Saved, Applied, Interviewing, Offer, Rejected or Withdrawn. A filter on this column is your pipeline.
- Date saved, Date applied: so you know what has gone two weeks without an answer.
- Resume version: which resume you sent. When they call, you know what they read.
- Contact or referral: who you know there, and whether they referred you. A referral is the surest way past the pile.
- Pay range: what the posting states, for when they ask what you expect. The salary lookup gives the market's range.
- Next step, Next step date: the one thing to do next and when. Sort by the date each morning.
- Notes: names of interviewers, what they asked, what you would say differently.
When a spreadsheet stops being enough
Past twenty or thirty applications, typing every row gets in the way of applying. DonutApply keeps the same tracker for you: jobs you save from its listings or the Chrome extension land in it, its status moves as you apply, and it reminds you of what is due. It is free to start.
Questions
Is the template free?
Yes, with no sign-up. It is a plain CSV file you can open, change and keep.
Does it work in Google Sheets?
Yes. In Google Sheets choose File, then Import, then Upload, and pick the file. Excel and Numbers open it directly.
What should I track for each application?
At least the company, the role, the link, the status, the date you applied, which resume you sent and the next step with its date. The template has those and a few more.
